During the lock down, our field staff  working in the red-light area of Kamathipura has been trying their best to reach out to the mothers of the children who stay at our  Night Care Centers. However, in times of social distancing, physical outreach has become very difficult. To mitigate this, our team follows-up on the mothers through phone calls. It is not easy as not all the women, whose children are in our care, have access to cell-phones.

Radha (name changed) who lives in the one of the lanes of Kamathipura is the mother to one of the children in our Night Care Center. She is one of the few women who has a cellphone, and in this crisis, she has been looking out for those who don’t have one. The team calls Radha if they want to check on someone who does not have a phone. Radha not only gives an update but also tries her best to connect us to the woman on call. Her assistance helps us follow-up on the mothers in the absence of physical outreach.

People like Radha make us believe that while the situation is dire, there are also people who are helping assistance reach those on the other side of the digital divide.
