Women’s group protests against promotion of sex tourism
Date: August 7, 2017
Location: Panaji, Goa
Goa is increasingly becoming a dominant hub for sex tourism, following in the footsteps of Thailand and the Philippines. Raising concern over this the Goa Collective forum, a group of women volunteers of civic and consumer forums, has appealed business and state bodies such as Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Shack Owners Welfare Society of Goa to take a stringent stand against the promotion of sex tourism in the state.
The forum has also appealed the MLAs to acknowledge the worsening situation and devise a realistic and immediate plan of action to curb this aggravating issue.
Additionally, the forum will be organizing a weeklong campaign titled, ‘Say NO to Sex Tourism in Goa’. The campaign will commence on 28thof September, which is the World Tourism Day.
