POCSO Trails: A Guide for Victims’ Counsels
This report by Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy in collaboration with The World Bank analyses the POCSO Act in India as it completed 10 years in 2022. It is a reflection of what has worked and what needs to improve in the criminal justice system’s response to child sexual abuse. This is the largest ever study undertaken on POCSO courts yet, and is based on data from 400,000 cases (spanning 28 states and Union Territories), of which 230,730 have been analysed to understand the pendency and disposal patterns of POCSO cases. It includes the legislative history of the Act, analyses it in action and through data, and presents key challenges and recommendations for the time ahead.
